Teenage Advice: How to Create Good Habits for Success

A lot of teenage advice about dating, getting good grades, and having a pleasing personality are sought by adolescents. Few seem to be concerned about creating habits that can shape their future and ensure success in their endeavors, but this is because the future is often the furthest thing from their minds. While the teenage years may seem like a rollercoaster ride filled with both good and bad experiences, it is smart to use these years as a launching pad to become productive adults.

That is not to say look, talk, or act beyond your years, or develop a superiority complex. In fact, one of the best teenage advices anyone can give is to simply be yourself, and improve on things that can help you become better. Consider some of these tips to doing exactly that.

Learn to prioritize. This is a very effective method that can shape your attitude toward deciding which things come first, in order of the biggest importance. Teens are faced with choices every single day. For instance, after school, will you choose to go out for pizza with your friends, go home and watch television until dark, or start with schoolwork so you can finish early and be well rested for the next school day?

If you find yourself putting fun above all else, then you could fall into the instant gratification pattern which indicates poor impulse control. One of the most helpful teenage advice you can heed is to learn to prioritize, especially when it comes to dealing with school-related things. Putting academics in the back burner in favor of others of less significance can have serious repercussions on your future.

Do not let stress take over your life. Those who think only adults experience real stress have probably never gone through the hormonal ups and downs a teenager goes through on a daily basis. School, peer pressure, family problems, love interests, and the other trappings of an adolescent life can sometimes take their toll on the hapless teenager, which is perhaps the biggest reason why so many feel depressed at such a tender age.

Psychiatrists and counselors typically give teenage advice on learning how to balance work and play. As mentioned above, school and other things that have to do with it should be prioritized, but this doesn’t mean that you should forgo having fun with friends and family. Learn to relax, enjoy doing things that mean a lot to you, and keep stress away before it conquers your entire life.

Build bridges instead of walls. This is not a strange teenage advice to work in the field of engineering or construction. It is to encourage adolescents such as yourself to form meaningful relationships with people around you, so that they will still be around to support and care for you as you enter adulthood. Family, friends, potential partners, schoolmates, and other people in your immediate environment may sometimes get in disagreements with you, but instead of shutting them out, try for proper and effective communication to resolve any issues you may have. Blocking out people in your life means closing doors of opportunity of knowing and being close to someone can bring. Build bridges and repair damaged ones whenever you can. Being a teenage hermit is not a good preview of an adult life that relies on regular interaction for it to be successful.

There are no set formulas for success, at least not in the form of rules any adolescent can follow. However, teenage advice such as the ones listed above are borne from experience and logic: teenagers who have developed sound habits and attitudes are bound to grow up to be successful and well-adjusted adults.

Creating Habits

I have recently set out on a mission to start waking up at or before 8am and decided to write an article on habits, now everybody has habits, whether you notice them or not, what you do as soon as you get up is just one of your habits, we probably don’t notice them because we do them on a subconscious level, because after you continually do something one way, you, sort of forget the other ways.

Many people who want to change a habit or start a new one, think that just because they do it right for a week, they have got it under wraps, the thing is, continual action usually takes 21 days or more to become a habit. We need to convince our brain that it is normal for us to be doing something this way, one of the reasons it takes so long to form a new habit is because we need to stop doing the old one while we learn the new one. Procrastination is one of the worst attributes to have, it can stop you from doing so many things, block so many opportunities, and deny many dreams, just because you “didn’t feel like” getting up early, making sure you worked out each day, or because you didn’t want to leave your comfort zone to follow your dream.

The main point you need to know in creating a habit is your goal, what you want to have at the end of it, for me, I want to wake up earlier, 8am to be exact, knowing what you want is half the battle, the other half is doing it, you need to take consistent, focused action and not procrastinate. If you want to make this even easier you should have a plan, for example, if you wanted to work out, you would need to set aside time, because well you can be in two places at once, and for my goal of creating a habit of waking up earlier, I should plan to go to be earlier, instead of at 3am in the morning. Not only will you be more productive, it will help you be less procrastinating, because you have already set aside the time for the activity.

Let’s not lie, if you were trying to get into the habit of going for a walk each day or to start working out each day, we all know it is easier for you to just go to the TV and pick up the remote. Most people would argue with themselves about it won’t hurt if you watch TV just once and not do your workout that day, and eventually try to convince themselves that they made the right choice, that they deserve to procrastinate because they had already been walking all week.

Many people would rather choose to give up on their goal, you do not want to be doing that, you deserve the outcome you are trying to achieve whether that is more productivity by waking earlier or walking to keep in shape. Too many people forget their why, and are disappointed by their lack of results early in the process, so it is good to remember that life is a marathon, not a sprint.

“Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp” Comes to Colorado – The CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center Begins Transformational Program

A program for anyone looking to experience weight loss “boot camp” is coming to the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) as a one-week destination weight loss boot camp and transformation program.

“Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp,” a collaboration between AHWC and Eyeworks USA, is an evidenced-based program inspired by the unscripted series “Extreme Weight Loss,” produced for ABC by Eyeworks USA. This season, the show has participants spending their first three months at AHWC to successfully begin their weight loss journey (the series documents the year-long transformation in 17 people).

Holly Wyatt, MD, medical director at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center and on ”Extreme Weight Loss,” is a guiding force, along with series trainers and transformation specialists Chris and Heidi Powell, in helping the show participants safely lose weight. In her practice at AHWC, Wyatt also works with individuals and small groups to help them realize weight loss and maintenance goals.

“Many of the changes these people make have nothing to do with diet or exercise,” said Wyatt. “We know the most challenging part of losing weight is keeping it off and developing a new way of thinking to keep it off long-term.”

People who take part in “Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp” will come to AHWC every day for Phase 1, which is the first week of the weight loss boot camp program, and have hotel accommodations near campus.

“We have 20 years of experience and science backing up the principles we will share at ‘Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp’,” said Wyatt. “In addition to looking at nutrition and exercise, we will assess individual metabolic function, sleep and stress levels to give participants a look at what they do well and what they might need to work on.”

During “Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp,” participants will be assigned a transformation coach for daily sessions of physical activity, mental exercises and nutrition education. Each also will receive body composition, personalized nutritional analysis and wellness assessments. The program is based on the weight loss principles outlined in “State of Slim,” written by Wyatt and James O. Hill, PhD, AHWC’s executive director.

“State of Slim” principles include identifying your personal reasons for losing weight, focusing on positive aspects of weight loss, creating a supportive environment and developing new habits and rituals to make healthy decisions.

After the first week, participants will head home and have the option to continue the transformation in Phases 2, 3 and 4. They can take part in 15 weekly online classes with their transformation coach. There will also be an online community for support and guidance throughout the year. Food eaten less than the adequate amount do not provide the body with strength, nutrition and energy and it can cause some diseases in the body as well. Food eaten more than the adequate amount makes it difficult for the digestive fire to digest it and can cause some serious disorders related with digestive system of the body.

Undigested food can constrict the digestive system on both the sides and by diminishing digestive fire can cause discomfort. It is also possible to have vomiting and lose motions at a time in such case as well. In this case the food do not get digested, do not move upward like in vomiting and downwards like as a lose motion. This can be with pain in the abdomen. Here one can experience gaseous stomach, giddiness, tremors and stiffness etc as well. It is also possible to have the disorders like fever, lose motions, burning sensation in the body, excessive thirst and unconsciousness. Vomiting, heaviness of the body and watering of mouth can also accompany these symptoms.

If all such symptoms are due to excessive eating of food, then the best remedy for such disorder is to fast for some days or have some herbal medicines digestive in nature which can increase the digestive fire and restore the strength of it with helping it in the process of digestion. Organic Food Industry Grew 12% in 2013-2014 Reports Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water Host

Sales in the organic food industry in the United States grew 12-percent from 2013 to 2014, according to radio talk show host Sharon Kleyne, setting a record in an industry that has been experiencing rapid growth since 1990. The US economy in the same period grew 2-percent. Rapid and sustained expansion in the organic food industry, Kleyne believes, reflects a fundamental change in the eating habits of consumers, towards less processed and healthier, more natural foods. Since 1990, the organic food industry has grown from $ 1-billion a year in annual revenue to $ 35-billion in 2013. About half of these sales were through the nation’s 20,000 health and organic food stores. The other half were through supermarkets.

“Organic foods,” as described by Kleyne and Bragg, are free from pesticides, growth hormones, chemical fertilizers and genetic modification. Organic foods must meet specified industry standards. A “health food store” is a store featuring organic and natural foods and food products, whole foods, foods high in nutritional content and dietary supplements.

One of the largest manufacturers of organic and natural food products, Hain Celestial, has increased in the last five years from a $ 19 per share stock value on the NASDAQ, to $ 86 per share.

Patricia Bragg pointed out that every successful organic food store, health food store, whole food store and supermarket health food and organic food section in the world, traces their origin to the century old legacy of her father, Paul Bragg, acknowledged as the “Father of the Health Food Movement in America.”

The recession had a powerful effect on most consumer-facing industries. With the unemployment rate climbing, per capita disposable incomes waned, causing shoppers to tighten their purse strings and reduce demand for discretionary products, such as apparel. Additionally, shoppers turned to lower-priced retail outlets, such as mass merchandisers and internet-only retailers, for their clothing needs. Still, the increasing obesity rate in the United States has supported industry revenue growth during the past five years. Consequently, IBISWorld expects industry revenue to grow at an annualized rate in the five years to 2014.

Industry profitability fell to a recessionary low in 2009 and 2010 and remained constrained immediately following the recession. According to IBISWorld Industry Analyst David Yang, “The weak profit margin is partly the result of consumers’ lower-priced clothing choices during the recession, in addition to the rising cost of inputs.” Floods in key cotton-supplying countries caused the commodity’s price to skyrocket in 2010 and 2011, which raised the price of clothing. While retailers passed on a portion of the increase to consumers, they had to absorb the rest of it, diminishing profit margins. Since then, profit margins have improved as cotton prices declined and volatility moderated.

The industry is forecast to perform more strongly over the five years to 2019, as factors like per capita disposable income continue to grow. There is no doubt that Americans are charitable — last year alone, donations in the U.S. reached $ 416.5 billion, a 13 percent increase over the prior year. Americans aim to support causes that are close to them, whether for their child’s school or sports team or for research on a disease that has affected a family member or friend. And in an effort to fundraise, individuals often find their charitable efforts are outpacing their circle of friends and family, leaving them to wonder – how often is too often and how much is too much? Leading financial education nonprofit American Consumer Credit Counseling has compiled a list of tips that will maximize the fundraising success, while also keeping relationships intact.

1)    Develop your message. If you can speak with conviction about the charity and demonstrate your passion for the cause, people will be more motivated to support you. Your ability to answer questions with ease instills a sense of faith in those you approach for donations.

2)    Be comfortable asking, and comfortable hearing no. This coincides with how often it is appropriate to solicit the same individuals for different charities. Close family and friends can be approached for each event, while distant relatives and acquaintances should be limited to two or three requests per year to avoid inundating them. While raising money for charity is notable, don’t expect every person to give. If you send a solicitation and the person doesn’t respond, don’t badger them. Maintain a ‘no hard feelings’ policy and never put people on the spot. If your request is declined, thank them anyway and move right along in the conversation.

3)    Know your target audience. You will get better results by targeting your solicitations rather than blasting your entire address book. For instance, if you know someone who is an animal lover, contact them to help raise funds for the local shelter you’re supporting.

4)    Finances are not created equal. It’s important to understand that not everyone has the financial means to donate, no matter how worthy the cause. Try to be aware of this and introduce other ways that the friend or family member can support the charity through volunteering or helping in your effort to raise funds.

5)    Mind your manners. Always send a thank you note or e-mail after a person has donated to your cause. By supporting your charitable interests, the person has gone above and beyond. Be sure to let them know that their generosity made an impact.
